This Nairobi National Park half day tour is the most reviewed drive-only listing on GetYourGuide, run by Kenya Bush Expeditions at $33 per person with 795 reviews at 4.4. The format is simple: hotel pickup anywhere in the Nairobi pickup zone, about four hours of game viewing in an open-roof van, then a coffee and shopping stop at the Maasai Market in Karen before the drop-off. The KWS park entry fee is not in the $33. You buy that online before the day. This page sets out what the price covers, how the morning or afternoon runs, and which travellers should book a different vehicle or a different day. See all Nairobi National Park tours side by side.
About This Tour
Kenya Bush Expeditions runs this half day as a shared game drive from Nairobi, with a private option for groups of up to 8. The drive inside the park lasts about 4 hours in an open-roofed van, standing allowed so you get a wide view over the plains. The listing offers morning or afternoon departures and does not print fixed clock times, so the exact pickup time comes with your confirmation.
The $33 covers the vehicle, the guide, hotel pickup and drop-off, mineral water and a coffee break where you buy a hot drink. It does not cover the KWS park entry fee, which Kenya Wildlife Service sets at $80 per adult and $40 per child for non-residents, paid online before the drive.

Check Dates and Availability
The listing runs morning and afternoon departures with free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Check the widget for open dates and your pickup zone.
How the Day Runs
The listing prints its own itinerary in five stages, with durations for each but no fixed clock departure times.
Stage by Stage
The van collects you from one of five pickup locations across Westlands, the CBD, Nairobi South and Haile Selassie Avenue, then drives about 30 minutes to the park. The game drive itself is listed as 4 hours with sunrise noted on the morning option, and the guide stops so you can stand and scan from the open roof. Monkeys near the gate are called out on the listing as an easy early sighting, though wildlife is never guaranteed.
After the drive the day stops at Maasai Market Collections in Karen for about an hour, where the coffee break happens and you can shop for Maasai souvenirs. A final 30-minute van leg returns you to one of five drop-off points. The listing states morning or afternoon departures but no exact clock times, so ask the operator for your pickup window when you book. Note the park's gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM, which frames both the morning and the afternoon option.
The listing does not include a stop at the Ivory Burning Site inside the park. If that landmark matters to you, the 5-Hour 4x4 Safari names it as a stop at the same $33 price.
The listing states durations for each stage but no fixed clock departure times.

What the Price Covers
The listing ticks five inclusions and lists everything after them as excluded. Read both sides before you compare the total cost with other listings.
The Real All-in Total
The $33 is the seat, not the day. The KWS park entry fee is the big extra: $80 per adult and $40 per child for non-residents, paid through the KWSPay portal before the drive. Because the fee is separate, an apples-to-apples comparison with a bundled package is seat price plus the $80 fee on this listing, against a single bundled figure elsewhere. Note one conflict: the listing's Includes block lists park entrance fees at $80 per adult bought online, while the same listing's description elsewhere reads as if fees were covered. The official KWS fee schedule confirms $80 adult and $40 child for non-residents, and the operator's own mandatory extras note says the fee is bought online before the drive. Confirm with the operator before paying if the checkout shows anything different.
Compared with a bundled package where you reach the gate yourself and pay a per-car pickup surcharge, this listing already includes hotel pickup in the $33, which keeps the total lower for most groups of two to four. Compare every option on the Nairobi National Park tours homepage before you decide.
| Line | In the price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| KWS park fee | No | $80 per adult, $40 per child for non-residents, bought online via KWSPay before the drive |

| Game drive vehicle and guide | Yes | Open-roof van, about 4 hours in the park |

| Sheldrick orphanage entry | Not on this tour | The day does not include the 11am elephant visit |
| Giraffe Centre entry | Not on this tour | Add it on a combined day, entry about $15 per adult there |
| Meals and gratuities | No | Stated as excluded on the listing |

Book It If, Skip It If
Book it if
- you want the cheapest seat in the comparison at $33 with hotel pickup and drop-off included
- you want the most reviewed drive-only listing on GetYourGuide, 4.4 from 795 reviews
- you want about 4 hours of game drive inside a 5-hour day with free cancellation up to 24 hours before
Skip it if
- you want a guaranteed window seat, since the shared van carries up to 15 people, so book the Private Half-Day Jeep Tour instead, a private pop-roof Land Cruiser at $90 per person
- you want the 11am baby-elephant hour in the same trip, this day is drive-only, so the Park, Elephants and Giraffes Shared Day adds both stops at $35 per person
- the Ivory Burning Site stop matters to you, it is not on this route, but the 5-Hour 4x4 Safari includes it at the same $33 price
Who This Tour Rules Out
A $33 shared van seat is the cheapest way into the park, but the format has real limits. Match them against how you travel before you book.
Limits and the Alternatives
The shared option puts up to 15 people in one open-roof van, so you may not sit by the window and your guide juggles many passengers' priorities. If a window seat and a say in the route matter, book the Private Half-Day Jeep Tour instead, a private pop-roof Land Cruiser for 4 to 6 hours at $90 per person with airport pickup on the longer option.
This day is drive-only. There is no elephant orphanage and no Giraffe Centre, so if you want the 11am baby-elephant hour in the same trip, the Park, Elephants and Giraffes Shared Day adds both at $35 per person over about 8 hours.
The 4.4 rating from 795 reviews is solid but sits below the site's highest-rated listings, and the park fee on top nearly doubles the outlay per adult. If the figure you see must be the figure you pay, Private Land Cruiser, Fee Included puts the entrance fee inside the price. The listing has no stated minimum age and is listed as wheelchair accessible, but 5 hours standing and sitting in a van with 14 others is a long half day for small children or anyone who needs frequent stops.

Pros and Cons
The honest read on the most reviewed drive-only listing on GetYourGuide.
What we genuinely like
- Cheapest seat in the comparison at $33 per person, with hotel pickup and drop-off already in the price
- The most reviewed drive-only listing, 4.4 from 795 reviews, so the track record is broad
- About 4 hours of game drive inside a 5-hour day, a high share of actual park time
- Guides in English, German, French and Dutch, with a private option for up to 8
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start and reserve now pay later
The honest downsides
- The $80 adult KWS park fee is paid on top and is bought online before the drive, so the real outlay per adult is far above the headline seat price
- The shared van carries up to 15 people, so a window seat is not assured
- No fixed clock departure times are printed, only morning or afternoon
- No stop at the Ivory Burning Site, and no elephant orphanage or Giraffe Centre on this day
- The 4.4 rating sits below the site's top-rated listings
- One listing conflict over whether the park fee is covered, so confirm with the operator at checkout
Who it's NOT for: Not for travellers who want a guaranteed window seat, a fixed departure time, the baby elephants in the same trip, or a single all-in price with nothing to pay at the gate.
Park Fee, Gates and What to Bring
Three practical things decide how smooth the day runs: paying the KWS fee before you arrive, knowing the gate hours, and packing for an open vehicle.
Buy the Park Fee Online First
Independent and tour visitors pay the KWS conservation fee through the KWSPay portal, which accepts M-Pesa, Visa card and bank transfer. The non-resident rate at Nairobi National Park is $80 per adult and $40 per child, with Kenyan citizens and residents paying lower rates in shillings. Children aged five and under enter free. Pay before the morning of the drive so the gate scan is quick. The park sits about 7 to 10 km from the Nairobi CBD depending on the route, and gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM. The listing does not state which gate this tour uses.
For gate locations, routes and the payment portals in detail, see the gates and hours section of Nairobi National Park tours.
What Lives Inside the Fence
Kenya Wildlife Service records more than 100 mammal species and four of the Big Five in the park's 117 square kilometers. Elephants are the one absence, so no game drive here promises them. KWS lists a rhino sanctuary in the park, and three resident lion prides, named Kingfisher, Athi and Mokoyet, are recorded, though wild animals are never a guarantee. More than 400 bird species are listed. The park was gazetted in 1946 as Kenya's first national park, and its southern boundary along the Mbagathi River is unfenced, so wildlife moves out to the plains in the wet season.
Two landmarks sit beyond the standard drive loop. The Ivory Burning Site monument marks where Kenyan presidents burned confiscated ivory starting in 1989 under President Daniel arap Moi, destroying roughly 5 percent of all ivory confiscated worldwide at the time. And the park allows marked walking trails, including one to the hippo pool on the Athi River where crocodiles also live, a rarity in national parks. This tour's listed stops do not include either, so treat them as reasons to pick a different vehicle option, not as part of this day. Read more in the wildlife section of Nairobi National Park tours.
Seasons and the Packing List
KWS groups July to December and December to March as high season for game viewing, with short grass and sunny weather making animals easier to spot. April to June is the low season because of the long rains, when some park tracks turn muddy and four-wheel drive may be needed. This tour runs in rain, and the open roof means sun and dust in the dry months.
KWS's visitor tips list drinking water, a camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent and sunglasses. The listing itself asks you to bring a passport or ID card and a camera. Single-use plastic is banned across all KWS parks, so leave plastic bottles and bags out of your daypack. KWS rules for the drive itself: stay in the vehicle with doors closed, keep at least 20 metres from wildlife, never feed animals, and respect the 40 km/h limit on park roads.

What Travelers Said
Erick our guide was both passionate and knowledgeable. He had an eagle eye for spotting all forms of wildlife including even a large turtle along the road! He knew all the places to find each animal. We even got within a few metres of two rhinos and a giraffe for selfies.
We hade an amazing safari it was unforgettable and our guide so friendly knowledgeable and he made sure we had the best chance to spot the animals
I really enjoyed the tour and saw so many animals! Eric was very knowledgeable and provided an excellent tour. Thank you.
We had an absolutely amazing experience. We saw a lot of animals and Nairobi national park is really worth the visit! Communication with the agency was easy and smooth. Our guide John was so kind and really made an effort for us to see as many animals as possible. We highly recommend this tour!
Pickup was prompt and the guide was great. Lots of knowledge about the park and where to find the animals. On a safari, you want a guide/driver that will get you the best views and that’s what we got. In a short drive, we saw almost all animals - lions, rhinos, a cheetah, giraffes and lots of amazing birds.
It was a great experience. First time, driver was nice and explained things as we went along and accommodating as well
Half Day Tour Questions
What time does this half day tour start?
The listing offers morning or afternoon departures but prints no fixed clock times, and it notes sunrise on the morning option. The park's gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM, which frames the day. Ask the operator for your pickup window when booking, and compare departure details on the Nairobi National Park tours homepage.
Is the park entry fee included in the $33?
No. The KWS fee for non-residents is $80 per adult and $40 per child, bought online before the drive. The listing's own text conflicts on this point, so confirm at checkout. See the full fee table in What the Price Covers.
Does this tour include the elephant orphanage or the Giraffe Centre?
Neither. This is a drive-only day, and the park itself has no elephants, so the only elephants of a Nairobi trip are the orphans at Sheldrick. If you want them, the Park, Elephants and Giraffes Shared Day adds both stops.
What animals will I see on the game drive?
KWS records four of the Big Five including black rhino, three resident lion prides, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas and more than 400 bird species in the park, but wild sightings are never guaranteed and the listing does not promise any animal. Read the wildlife rundown at Nairobi National Park tours.
Does the route stop at the Ivory Burning Site or the hippo pool trail?
Not on this listing, whose only stop after the drive is the Maasai Market in Karen. The Ivory Burning Site monument marks the ivory burnings that began in 1989, and the park has a marked walking trail to the hippo pool on the Athi River. The 5-Hour 4x4 Safari includes the Ivory Burning Site stop at the same $33 price.
How big is the group and what vehicle is used?
The shared option takes up to 15 people in an open-roof van, and a private option for up to 8 is available, with a safari jeep on the jeep option. For your own vehicle, the Private Half-Day Jeep Tour runs 4 to 6 hours at $90 per person.
What should I bring and when is the best season?
Bring your passport or ID, a camera, sunscreen, sunglasses and binoculars, and note the single-use plastic ban in all KWS parks. KWS names July to December and December to March as high season, and April to June as the wet low season with muddy tracks. The seasons and packing advice are laid out in Park Fee, Gates and What to Bring.
